Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child join The Gregg School?

Students join The Gregg School in Year 7, age 11, and stay until they have completed their GCSEs in Year 11, age 16.

We also have a sister prep school located nearby, The Gregg Preparatory School, for children from Early Years to Year 6; age 3-11 years.

Will my child have to pass an examination to be accepted for a place?

All prospective students sit an Entrance Assessment, which, for those joining us at the start of Year 7, comprises written tests in English, Maths and Reasoning skills. The objective of the assessment is to enable us to identify each child's strengths and areas where they may require additional support. The Entrance Assessment, the child's school report, their school reference, along with conversations and observations during visits, are combined factors that lead to an offer of a place.

The Entrance Assessment is held on a Saturday at the end of January/beginning of February each year. If a prospective student is unable to sit the Assessment on this day, we may make arrangements for them to sit it during the following week. Please note that academic scholarships are only offered to those who sit the Assessment on the Saturday.

Entry into years 8-11 may be possible throughout the academic year, subject to the availability of places. The Entrance Assessment for prospective students in these year groups will comprise tests in English, Maths, Science and the foreign language they are currently studying.

Can I apply for help with school fees?

We offer a number of academic scholarships each year, ranging from 10%-33%, to those children who obtain the highest marks in the main Entrance Assessment which takes place on a Saturday at the end of January/beginning Febraury.

Scholarships for Music, Art and Sport may also be awarded, with fee discounts up to a maximum of 20%. To apply for these, please complete and return our Scholarship Application form by the date specified.

In addition, parents may apply for means-tested bursaries, which are based on the parents' income. The maximum assistance is normally 50% of the total fees.To request a burasry pack, please contact the Deputy Bursar, Mrs Gibson, on [email protected]

Are discounts offered for siblings?

Yes we do offer discounts for siblings whilst they are at either The Gregg Preparatory School or The Gregg School at the same time. The first sibling receives a 7.5% discount and any additional siblings receive 10% off the school fees.

Is transport available to and from school?

Yes - we have our own fleet of The Gregg School minibuses which travel out to a radius of about 15 miles around the school. Please see the transport section of the website for the current bus routes.

Please note that bus routes are reviewed annually, in July, to accommodate our upcoming Year 7s and we are always willing to consider the addition of new routes if a demand exists. Prospective parents should be assured that if the current routes do not include a stop near their home, we will endeavour to change the route accordingly.
