Headteacher's Welcome | The Gregg School | A Private Senior School in Southampton

Welcome From The Headteacher

The Gregg School is a co-educational independent all-through school for girls and boys aged 4-16, with a roll of approximately 370 students. Founded in the city in 1901, we are a member of both the Independent Schools Association and the Independent Schools Council.

At The Gregg School, we shape education around the child, with every aspect thoughtfully connected to support both progressive personal development and strong academic challenge. Eco-pedagogy is our distinctive take on education – we see our learning environment as a living and interdependent ecosystem. It is our dynamic, interconnected network, that brings together every element of school life: teaching, learning, wellbeing, ecology, relationships, and opportunity, into a carefully balanced whole.

As a truly independent, long-established school, we have the freedom to reflect on our practice, draw on research, and adapt with wisdom and agility. This flexibility allows us to continually shape and nurture the environment in which our pupils learn – ensuring that their surroundings and experiences form a rich, supportive framework for success.

Our vision is to unlock the potential in every person, and throughout this prospectus you will see how our core values: Achieving Personal Best, Valuing All, and Enriching Experiences, shape everything we do within The Gregg School.

Through intentionally small class sizes, expert teaching, diverse opportunities and a highly personalised approach, we ensure each child is both supported and challenged to achieve their academic best at every stage of their journey. We place equal importance on personal and holistic development. Pupils are encouraged to embrace new experiences through co-curricular activities, residential trips and international travel. Our strong pastoral care underpins this, nurturing respect, wellbeing, within an integral sense of ‘belonging’.

Set within 23 acres of beautiful green space, our pupils develop a deep appreciation for the natural environment. It is an ideal setting to learn about sustaining our planet, while offering the freedom to run, play, and reflect. As an experienced educator and ecologist, a former Gregg pupil, and a long-serving member of staff, I am proud to lead our thriving educational ecosystem and look forward to warmly welcoming you and your family into our community.

We would be delighted for you to visit us and experience this first-hand. Do come and see what a Gregg School education could provide for your family. Call our Registrar on 02380 472133 or via registrar@thegreggschools.org to make an appointment.
