PE & Sport
PE Curriculum
Physical Education is taught to all students in Years 7 - 11. The P.E. department aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that will enable students to develop their playing ability in a range of sports, as well as fostering an awareness of a healthy lifestyle.
Whilst continuing with class PE lessons, students can also opt to take PE GCSE for which they will have additional timetabled lessons.

Elite Sports |
---|
We have many students who have represented the county in sports such as football, cross country, hockey, rugby, rowing, table tennis and swimming; a number have competed at a national level in sports such as diving, dancing, athletics and sailing. We encourage students competing at a high level to join our Elite Sports programme where they can benefit from additional coaching and mentoring within school. |
Sports Venues |
The School is fortunate to have space within its own grounds for athletics, football, rugby, netball, and also makes use of many excellent local off-site facilities including Bitterne Leisure Centre, Places Leisure Centre, Trojans Hockey, Southampton University and Red Lodge Swimming Pools and the Ski Slope at Southampton Alpine Centre. |
Competitions |
The Gregg competes against other Southampton Schools and Independent Schools in a variety of sporting fixtures and tournaments. There are many opportunities to compete internally at school via our many House events. Students in our three houses, Roman, Spartan and Trojan, are all encouraged to represent their houses throughout the year in competitions such as: netball, football, rugby, hockey, table tennis, athletics. Our annual Sports Day is held at Southampton Sports Centre and covers an array of athletics and running events. All students are encouraged to take part and support their House. |
Co-curricular Clubs |
Our co-curricular sports clubs are very popular amongst students at The Gregg. The wide variety of different sporting activities allows for all students to find something they can enjoy and become part of a team. All hours spent doing co-curricular sports count towards our Valor scheme. The PE Department offers an array of co-curricular clubs at lunchtime and after school, which include the following:
