The Gregg Entrance Assessment

The Gregg Entrance Assessment

Thank you for considering joining Year 7 at The Gregg School in September 2027.

Choosing the right senior school is an important decision, and we believe the admissions process should be as straightforward and flexible as possible for families.

Our Year 6 Entrance Assessments take place regularly from September through to June, allowing you to choose a date that works best for your child and your family. As each assessment is considered in relation to a child's age at the time, there is no disadvantage to taking it earlier in the academic year.

The first stage of the application process is for your child to visit us and complete their entrance assessment. This extended visit gives them the opportunity to experience life at The Gregg School, meet staff and pupils, and take part in a fun activity. It also allows us to get to know them as an individual, helping to ensure that The Gregg School is the right fit for them to thrive and enjoy their secondary school years.

The entrance assessment consists of a short piece of creative writing and an online test with four sections covering Maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. This assessment is not something that they should worry about or need to prepare for. For us, it is simply about us understanding their current working level. The key purpose of the assessment is to identify pupils’ strengths and place them in the appropriate teaching groups.

Above all, we want your child to enjoy their visit. Our welcoming staff will ensure they feel supported throughout the day and have the opportunity to experience the friendly atmosphere that makes our school so welcoming.

By securing a place early, families can enjoy the reassurance of knowing that this important decision has been made, allowing children to look forward to the exciting journey ahead of them.
